  one popular criticism of jw doctrine, and rightly so, is their emphasis on god's name at the expense of jesus.

  one inconvenient scripture in this respect is when jesus says his followers would be persecuted "on account of my name".

  a question from a recent clam meeting addressed this.. in the bible, the term “name” at times stands for the person who bears the name, his reputation, and all that he represents.

  One popular criticism of JW doctrine, and rightly so, is their emphasis on God's name at the expense of Jesus. One inconvenient scripture in this respect is when Jesus says his followers would be persecuted "on account of my name". A question from a recent CLAM meeting addressed this.
  

  In the Bible, the term “name” at times stands for the person who bears the name, his reputation, and all that he represents. . . . In the case of Jesus’ name, it also stands for the authority and position that his Father has given him.

  So what is allegedly infered by extension is said to trump what it simply says. This tactic is similar to their requirements for Elders and Servants. Instead of just reading what the Bible literally says, they say that 'it was understood that taking the lead in field ministry was included in the requirements', and then they go and make that one of the main requirements, with servants falling below the monthly quota, even if regular, being deleted. (This happened twice in my congregation.)

  i guess every jw has a different conscience on the matter, and i don't believe any jw publications have ever specifically mentioned nudity in film as being off limits.

  of course genitals are out of the question because that's usually relegated to r movies which most good jws don't view.

  female toplessness is condoned but not spoken about, as most jws i know have seen titanic and many own it.

  I've heard that European JWs have looser standards regarding movies, (different rating systems) and public nudity, (like at the beach). Nothing confirmed though.

Of course genitals are out of the question because that's usually relegated to R movies which most good JWs don't view. Female toplessness is condoned but not spoken about, as most JWs I know have seen Titanic and many own it. One family would send the kids out of the room when it came time for that scene. Many JWs seem to be okay with butts in a comedic context, but some say even that's off limits. What JW opinions have you encountered? Do rating systems in other countries come into play, for instance a US rated R movie that gets a lower rating elsewhere?

  My profile pic is a sheep in wolf's clothing, just a quick doodle drawn on my phone screen.

  This is what I and many PIMOs feel like, forced to be in a situation where we are pressured to do damaging things like enforce shunning, uphold an abusive organization and defend it against all reason, and preach dangerous doctrine to the public. Yet we try not to be used as tools to the extent we can manage, try not to do any more harm than we already did when mentally in, and attempt to redress from within to a degree.

  he mentions health and viewing pornography.

  those who viewed pornography during the last year should not apply.

  just wanted to share this funny thing.. so we have just been invited to a neighborhood xmas party to be held in the house of a lovely couple around the corner from us.. they bought the house a short time back from a jw who built it and lived there!.

  so, we get to enjoy one of our first xmas parties as a couple, in the former house of a jw!.

  now, that made me giggle.....
